Rock Paper Vision

Privacy Policy

Last updated: 2 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how the operator of Rock Paper Vision (the “Service”) handles information. The Service is a free browser game with no accounts and no sign-in, and it is built to collect as little as possible.

How your camera is used

Hand tracking runs entirely in your browser. In the vs Computer and local two-player modes, your camera images are processed on your device to detect hand gestures and are never uploaded, transmitted, or stored by us.

In online multiplayer, your live camera is streamed directly to your opponent (peer-to-peer over WebRTC) so each of you can see the other's hands. That video travels between the two players (a relay server may be used only if a direct connection cannot be made); it is not recorded or stored by us, but your opponent can see it and could capture it on their own device. We do not create or keep any face or biometric data.

What we collect

  • Settings.Your light or dark theme preference is stored in your browser's local storage, on your device only; clearing your browser data removes it. Game scores (win, loss, and draw tallies) are kept only in memory during a session and are not stored.
  • Anonymous analytics. We use cookieless analytics (Vercel Web Analytics) to understand aggregate usage such as page views. It sets no tracking cookies and is not used to identify you, although, like any web request, it briefly processes technical data such as your IP address and browser type.
  • Error logs (optional). If error monitoring is enabled, technical details of a crash (such as the error message, page, and browser) may be sent to Sentry to help us fix bugs. It is not used to identify you.
  • Online play.In online multiplayer, your chosen move (rock, paper, or scissors) and a room code are sent through a realtime messaging provider (Supabase) to reach your opponent and to set up the video connection. Your live camera is then streamed peer-to-peer directly to your opponent (see “How your camera is used” above). These messages are not stored by us, and the video flows between players rather than to our servers. The provider briefly processes connection data such as your IP address to route messages.

Some of this technical data (for example an IP address) may count as personal information or personal data under some laws, even though we do not use it to identify you.

Why we use it

To provide and operate the game, to understand rough usage, to keep the Service secure, and to fix problems. We do not sell your information and do not use it for advertising or profiling. Where the law requires a legal basis (such as the GDPR), we rely on our legitimate interests in operating and securing a free service.

Who we share it with

Only the infrastructure providers needed to run the Service, acting on our behalf: Vercel (hosting and analytics), Supabase (realtime messaging for online play), and, if enabled, Sentry (error monitoring). These providers may process data on servers outside your country, including outside Australia. We do not share your information with anyone else except where required by law.

How long we keep it

Your theme preference stays on your device until you clear it; game scores are not retained (they exist only during a session). Analytics and any error logs are kept for the limited periods set by those providers. Online-play messages are transient and are not retained by us.

Your rights

You can access and delete your on-device data at any time by clearing your browser storage. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights to access, correct, or delete personal information and to complain to a regulator, for example under the EU or UK GDPR (including the right of access and the right to erasure), the California Consumer Privacy Act, or the Australian Privacy Principles. To make a request, contact us at pohsuchenwork@gmail.com.

Children

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. If you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us and we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect the Service, but no method of transmission or storage is completely secure. Because the Service holds no accounts and keeps only a theme preference on your device, the information at risk is minimal.

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time and will post the updated version here with a new date.
